In August 2024, Vital Strategies Brazil was in Maputo, capital of Mozambique, to conduct a workshop on data matching techniques (linkage). The initiative focused on sharing methodologies developed by the Violence Prevention Program in Brazil and discussing solutions with local teams to improve the quality of information on gender-based violence in the country.
With the participation of more than 30 government representatives, including the Ministry of Health and its Gender-Based Violence Program team, the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice and the National Institute of Health, the meeting promoted an exchange of experiences on data analysis and management strategies.
In the first days, the Brazilian team presented their work practices, highlighting challenges and main results obtained in studies conducted in Brazil. In addition, participants received practical training in the use of R software for data processing and analysis, an essential tool for the implementation of the methodology discussed.
After this process, the practical application of the technique was illustrated by matching health databases, generating reflections on informational flows, standardization and gaps in data collection. As the main referral, a group was formed, composed of representatives of different institutions, to discuss the preliminary results and develop strategies for qualification and expansion of access to existing databases.
In the future, data from this methodology (linkage) will be used to develop innovative analyses on gender-based violence in the country, supporting government decisions with robust evidence to strengthen protection and assistance policies for Mozambican women.
